Enterprise Single Sign On
Most enterprises begin their single sign on projects focussing on Web Based Single Sign On (WSSO).  This addresses all applications that use a web browser to logon to the applications.  Why not do all applications in the beginning (called "Enterprise Single Sign On" or "ESSO")?

The reasons are normally cost.  Web based single sign on systems are more narrow in their ability and thus cheaper to install.

Enterprise Single Sign On (ESSO) has been until recently, considered more expensive to deploy.  In ESSO the applications are often desktop based relying on desktop security to provide the authentication or network authentication server(s).  This can involve the deployment of proxy servers and more complicated networks; contributing to a more expensive solution.

Managed Axxess, provides integrated web based Single Sign On natively in addition to desktop application single sign on.  With direct integration into the existing network Active Directory install, there is no need for costly network modifications.  Maintenance of user profiles is performed using the same network administration and user tools that are familiar to the IT staff.
